The American Yacht Club knows that learning to sail isn’t just for youngsters. A surprising number of sailors learn as adults and never look back.
Our program provides an opportunity for adults to learn the basics of small boat handling and to experience the joy of spending a few early evenings sailing on the Merrimack River.
We have a team of experienced certified full-time sailing instructors who provide land and water-based instruction for one evening a week, from 5-8pm, for five consecutive weeks. Courses are either Tuesdays, or Thursdays.
Students learn basic sailing skills, small boat handling, rigging, and safety. As students develop their skills and build confidence, the instructor will appropriately advance their sailing experience on the water through fun based exercises.
We prefer students bring their own U.S.C.G. approved life jacket/PFD to ensure comfort and fit, or the club can supply one on request.
Students should dress appropriately for the conditions of the day and wear closed-toe non-skid shoes that may get wet. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, insect repellent, water bottle and a rain jacket. Bring a safety strap or ‘croaky’ for your glasses and a hat clip as these things have a habit of getting blown overboard.
Full payment is required upon registration; $50 of which is a non-refundable deposit. No refunds will be given within 14 days of sailing class start date.
Credit cards are our preferred payment method; however, we accept Paypal. Also Cheques can be processed through the PayPal web portal.
Once your registration and payment has been successfully received, you should receive an email confirming your session dates. Please read this carefully as it includes a legal waiver and medical consent.
