Learn to sail for adults 18 years and older.
2019 Adult Sailing School registration is now open!
The American Yacht Club understands that learning to sail isn’t just for youngsters. Many of our members learned to sail as adults as well.
This program provides an opportunity for adults who wish to learn the basics of small boat handling to experience the joy of sailing on the Merrimack River. This is another way for the American Yacht Club to fulfill its mission of providing instruction in small boat handling and seamanship to its members, families and the community. This program will be conducted by an experienced certified full-time sailing instructor who will provide land and water-based instruction during two evenings a week for two-four week sessions. A minimum of four adult students will be required to run the class with a maximum of 10 students per class. Students will learn to sail and practice their skills on the club’s Hunter 140 sailboats.
The adult students will learn the basic sailing skills of small boat handling, rigging, and safety. As students develop their skills and build confidence, the instructor will appropriately advance their sailing experience on the water.
Students may bring their own U.S.C.G. approved life jacket/PFD or the club will supply one. We require that students wear closed toe shoes or sneakers as they may get wet, bring sunscreen, bring insect repellent and a rain jacket. If you wear glasses, bring a safety strap for your glasses and a hat clip as well.
Full payment is required upon registration; $50 of which is a non-refundable deposit. No refunds will be given within 14 days of sailing class start date.
